My name is MUKENGERE KIRANGI MALIPO.
I am a Congolese Refugee from Eastern DRC, Uvira Territory.
I am currently living in Busuma Refugee Camp, Ruyigi, Burundi.
I am the Founder and Director of Work For Living ASBL - a Refugee-Led organization.
Today I want to talk about a crisis affecting millions of refugees worldwide: DEPENDENCE.
Every day in Busuma Camp, young people wake up and wait for food, clothes, and aid from organizations.
But what happens when that aid stops? What happens when the world forgets us?
I see it every day. In Busuma we have energy. We have skills. We have dreams.
But we have no tools. No training. No capital to start.
We are not asking for more charity. We are asking for a chance.
My proposal to the world is simple:
1.TRAIN - Every refugee camp must have schools and centers teaching hand skills: tailoring, carpentry, farming, bee-keeping, phone repair.
2.FUND - After training, give small grants directly to refugee-led groups to start their own organizations and projects.
3. SUPPORT- Let refugees lead. We know our problems best. Give us the power to decide.
If refugees are given skills + small funding, we will stop depending on aid.
We will feed ourselves. We will build our own schools. We will create jobs for each other.
We will create dignity.
This is not charity. This is justice. This is human rights.
I speak from Busuma, Burundi. But this message is for all 35+ million refugees in the world.
