Mind Embrace Foundation (MEF) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Eastern Uganda dedicated to transforming communities through mental health and social empowerment. MEF was established in response to the recognition that mental health challenges are deeply influenced by social, economic and developmental conditions. Poverty, limited access to education, unemployment, social exclusion, and adverse early childhood experiences significantly shape mental wellbeing, particularly in low resource settings.
MEF works at the intersection of mental health and social development, focusing on community-based promotion, prevention, care, and recovery. Our interventions are designed collaboratively with communities and are guided by evidence, cultural relevance and inclusivity..
Our key areas of work include
- Community mental health services and psychosocial support.
- Early childhood development focusing on emotional, cognitive and social learning.
- Caregiver and family empowerment.
- Mental health research and implementation science.
- Vocational skills training.
- Education support.
- Interventions addressing social determinants of mental health.
MEF integrates service deliver, research, advocacy and capacity building to strengthen mental health systems at the community level. We emphasise prevention, early identification, continuity of care, and the promotion of dignity and inclusion for persons with mental health needs.
Our Vision is: Transforming societies and communities through mental health and social empowerment.
MEF seeks collaboration with mental health professionals, academic institutions, civil society organisations, community leaders and development partners committed to equitable and sustainable mental health solutions.
