Grassroots Green Council Launched in Sheema Municipality

On Friday, 9 October 2026, Nyanga Waste Management Group (NWMEG) launched the Grassroots Green Council (GGC) at Senevin Gardens, Kabwohe (Uganda), with support from the AU-EU Youth Action Lab.

The Council brings together 15 young leaders from across Sheema Municipality. They will be trained in municipal budget analysis, review the municipal budget for gaps in environmental and waste management funding, and present a youth-led Advocacy Brief to the Mayor and Municipal Council.

Her Worship the Mayor attended as Guest of Honour. She pledged full support and invited the Council to the municipality’s public budget consultation meetings, a strong first step toward a lasting youth voice in local planning.

Next comes the Council’s training phase. We welcome exchange with other grantees working on youth participation and local governance.
